Medium: Hand etched & lightly carved glass
This all started 35 years ago with a diamond tipped pen and an idea for a Christmas present for a martial arts friend. Without the help of a power tool, a dragon was scratched into a piece of glass and Japanese lettering signifying a martial arts style was added and framed. After this, my creative idea was put on a back burner.
Thirty years later, my talent was rekindled with the help of a Dremel tool. At first, I used pictures of great detail and copied them onto the glass, however, I found that Dremel did not supply diamond bits small enough for my detailing needs.
I soon discovered that dental burrs used for drilling teeth met my needs. Using burrs as small as .9mm allowed me to produce the details I personally required in my work.
Each piece of art is one of a kind. Although I have reproduced a few pieces that were in demand, I find that kind of manufacturing process unappealing. I prefer to produce only one piece of its kind.
Subject matter is very diverse. So far, it encompasses portraits of jazz and rock greats, pets, automobiles, motorcycles, Tibetan deities, botanicals, Celtic designs, spiritual art, art nouveau and landscapes. Nothing is out of bounds!
Commissioned Work is Graciously Accepted
